Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. It is based on the concept of Qi (pronounced “chee”), which is believed to be the vital energy that flows through the body along pathways known as meridians. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the balance and flow of Qi influence a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

During an acupuncture session, practitioners insert needles into specific acupuncture points along the meridians to stimulate and balance the flow of Qi. The goal is to promote the body’s natural healing processes, reduce pain, and improve overall health. Acupuncture is used to address a variety of conditions, including pain management, stress reduction, and various medical issues.

While acupuncture has been practiced for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine, it has gained popularity in Western countries as well. Research on acupuncture’s effectiveness is ongoing, and it is often used as a complementary therapy in conjunction with conventional medical treatments.

Acupuncture Frequently Asked Questions

Community Acupuncture operates in a group setting, with multiple patients receiving acupuncture simultaneously in a shared space. This approach allows for lower treatment costs as practitioners can treat multiple patients in the same time frame.

The community acupuncture model not only makes acupuncture more accessible but also emphasizes the importance of community and collective healing in a shared environment that extends beyond the physical benefits of acupuncture.

First visit you have an intake with the acupuncturist and ask any questions you have, figure out a treatment plan, and try a treatment. Get seated in a recliner and remove shoes, roll up sleeves and pant legs. No disrobing needed.

Acupuncture treats a variety of conditions, however a lot of people believe that they should only seek treatment if they have a specific issue to address.  Acupuncture is beneficial to prevent future disease, and for relaxation and stress relief. Many people come in with specific complaints for a series of treatments,  and continue to come back regularly to maintain health, feel more grounded and calm, and to address whatever comes up.

While most doctors focus on your pain or disease, we are focused on how we can return your body’s pattern of functioning back to normal. Our approach eliminates pain and disease by enhancing your body’s inherent healing capacity to do so.

When we place needles, it goes through the skin, contacts muscle tissue and interacts with blood and lymph flow and the nervous system. These signals cause the body to notice and redirect, like a reminder it can be in balance.

Some people feel changes as they rest with the needles in, others experience it as they move into the day, and others feel it in accumulation over the course of treatment. It isn’t a boom like medication, it is a gradual ease and comfort within the body. Consider getting more treatments or coming in sooner if your symptoms return before your next appointment is scheduled.

People usually rest in the clinic for 30-60 minutes. Give a wave or nod when you are ready to have the needles taken out.

Intakes are done talking side by side in a quiet tone. There is white noise machines and brief conversations are not overheard.
