Patty Medina
Patty Medina has been in competitive sports all her adult life. She started competing in Power lifting in the 80’s, switched to triathlons and then Ballroom. She worked at USM Lifeline program as a health fitness Assistant teaching all types of fitness classes, directing the Lifeline 5K and as a representative for the Maine Marathon. She is also a professor for Recreation and Leisure studies.
Turning her passions into careers, Patty earned certifications to coach triathlons, marathons and century cycling events for the Leukemia Society “Team ‘n Training”. She still holds The ACE (American Council on Exercise) Gold certification from 1986 as one of the first pioneers in the field.
In 2009 Patty founded “Fit to Live” 55+ for which she received the “Governor’s Fitness award for special populations.
In 2010 Patty received her certification from Peggy Cappy, “Yoga for the rest of us”often featured on PBS. With the wisdom of aging well, Patty saw a need for a modified type of yoga that can be done through the assistance of chairs, props and other tools at any age and ability while still providing the challenge to improve balance, coordination, proper posture, muscle tone and overall well-being.
Patty currently teaches water aerobics, senior fitness, yoga, ballroom, and is a coach for runners for Beach to Beacon as she is one of the 93 Legacy runners left.
